I’m Dr. Ashley McCune Shyver, a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in eating disorders, anxiety disorders, body image concerns, perfectionism, and stress management. I’m passionate about helping individuals who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, self-pressure, burnout, relationship stress, or difficulty finding balance in their lives. While I have advanced expertise in these specialty areas, I also enjoy working with individuals navigating everyday life challenges, transitions, emotional growth, and general mental health concerns.

I provide therapy for adolescents ages 14+ and adults in Kansas City, throughout Kansas, and via PSYPACT telehealth services in participating states. Many of the individuals I work with are high-achieving professionals, students, and women managing chronic stress, anxiety, perfectionism, and the emotional demands of busy lives.

I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Health Psychology from the University of Missouri–Kansas City in 2014. I also hold a Master’s degree in General Psychology from Boston University and a Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Missouri–Kansas City.

My clinical training includes experience at the Kansas City Center for Anxiety Treatment, Children’s Mercy Integrative Pain Management Program, and the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center. I also spent seven years as the Director of Admissions for an inpatient eating disorders program, where I specialized in assessing eating disorder severity and helping individuals access appropriate levels of care. Since entering private practice in 2011, I have worked extensively with individuals experiencing anxiety, OCD-related concerns, trauma, mood disorders, life transitions, and chronic stress.

My therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and individualized. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) while integrating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), mindfulness-based approaches, and nervous system regulation strategies. I believe therapy should be both evidence-based and deeply human — a space where individuals feel supported, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change.

As a Kansas City native, I feel deeply connected to the local community and value creating a practice that feels welcoming, compassionate, and authentic. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, reading by the beach, spending time with my family, and caring for my giant Newfoundland dogs.
