About Dr. McCune Shyver
Ashley McCune Shyver is a highly skilled licensed clinical psychologist specializing in eating disorders, body image disturbance, and anxiety disorders. She has a particular passion for working with women in high stress positions struggling with these issues as well as perfectionism, stress management, and boundary setting. With a strong educational background, Ashley earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in health from The University of Missouri -Kansas City in 2014. Prior to this, she obtained Masters degrees in General Psychology from Boston University in 2004 and Counseling and Guidance from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 2008.
Ashley's expertise extends beyond her primary focus areas, as she is also experienced in working with those with trauma, mood disorders, and helping individuals navigate life transitions. Some of her training experiences include the Kansas City Center for Anxiety Treatment, Children's Mercy Integrative Pain Management Program, and the Dwight D Eisenhower VA Medical Center. Additionally, Ashley spent seven years as the Director of Admissions at an inpatient eating disorders program, where she assessed eating disorder severity and directed individuals to appropriate levels of care. In 2011, she transitioned into private practice.
As a practitioner, Ashley utilizes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) as her primary treatment modality. Within the CBT framework, she incorporates acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and cognitive processing therapy (CPT). Her approach is tailored to each individual, providing individual and family therapy for individuals aged 14 and older.
Outside of her professional life, Ashley finds great joy in the company of her giant Newfoundland dogs, exploring new destinations through travel, and reading a good book beachside. She loves being married and is a proud parent of three children. Being a Kansas City native, Ashley is deeply connected to her community and is dedicated to helping individuals achieve mental well-being and personal growth.
